Close your eyes and think of Tenerife - Lineker’s Bar, lager, Veronicas, lager, Playa de las Americas, lager. Well, no, not really. Tenerife has changed quite dramatically over the last few years – from the stunningly modern architecture of the Tenerife Concert Hall in Santa Cruz to the new 5 star ultra-luxury resort hotels and boutique boltholes.
I spent 3 fantastic days at the Abama resort in Guia de Isora (just up the coast from Costa Adeje), which is, in my opinion, as good as any hotel I’ve visited in Europe. Possibly a little isolated, but everything you could wish for is at hand. 8 swimming pools, 5 bars, private beach, spa, spectacular golf course and 10 restaurants with cuisine ranging from Japanese and Italian to local fare.
Great for couples and families alike you can choose to stay in the hotel rooms of the Citadel in the heart of the Abama or in one of the more exclusive ‘villas’ nearer the ocean.
Other hotel options to consider include the Bahia del Duque and Plantacion del Sur in Costa Adeje, or if your preference is for something a little smaller then San Roque in Garachico could suit.
