Spain - Gran Canaria

by Ben Poole

For many years Gran Canaria has been attracting tourists in search of warmer climes and value for money, daily temperatures average at 24c and the manmade tourist resort of Playa Del Ingles provides an array of competitively priced hotels and apartments.

However, what is less well known is that Gran Canaria is a diverse and historical island rich in culture and natural beauty. Venture into the interior of the island for breathtaking mountain terrain and pretty rustic villages, or visit the infamous sand dunes and natural oasis at Maspalomas. Those in search of history can visit the islands capital of Las Palmas. Here you will find an eclectic range of architecture, including the home of Captain Christopher Columbus who visited Gran Canaria on his expedition to the Americas.

The upmarket resort of Meloneras is set to put Gran Canaria on the map as a luxury 5* destination. Here you will find outstanding resort style hotels which are complimented by a fine surrounding of quality restaurants, bars and boutiques. Hotels to consider would be Lopesan's Villa Del Conde and Costa Meloneras.

Puerto De Mogan is a hidden gem on the south west coast of Gran Canaria also known as ‘little Venice' with its intermingled waterways, marina, and gardens bursting with bougainvillea, palm trees, bird-of-paradise flowers, and hibiscus. Hotel to consider - Cordial Mogan Playa.
