Spain - Costa Almeria

by Ben Poole

Between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca lies the unspoilt region of Costa De Almeria.

Costa De Almeria is famous for its expansive Tabernas desert, which provides ideal soil conditions for the farming and exportation of fruit and vegetables and has also been the backdrop to various spaghetti westerns such as ‘The good, the bad and the ugly.'

The two most popular tourist resorts are Roquetas De Mar and Mojacar. Roquetas De Mar is the main tourist resort, which is typical in style to many resorts in its neighbouring Costas. Mojacar however is perfectly formed with its authentic hilltop white washed Pueblo and a golden sandy Playa complimented by small chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants.

Car hire is highly recommended to explore the Cabo De Gata national park and pretty secluded mountain villages.

Properties to consider in Mojacar would be the charming Parador Mojacar or for families the Puerto Marina Aparthotel.  Almeria is becoming increasingly easier to get to with services now from various UK airports.
