Jamaica is so much more than your typical tropical sun-kissed island. It has a diversity and depth to it that I did not imagine and to me, Jamaica is a beautiful island of mountains, lush vegetation, rivers and long sandy beaches.
The people are warm and friendly and there seemed to be a genuine desire amongst the locals I came across, to want to welcome tourists to their island. The island has an abundance of wildlife and during an exhilarating excursion, which takes visitors traversing through the rain forest on ropes at various speeds, I saw hummingbirds and butterflies, with the most spectacular iridescent colours I had ever seen.
For sightseeing, there are plenty of options open to the visitor to fill a day of discovery and a good starter is always Dunns River Falls, or a gentle cruise along the Martha Brae. A good tip though is to plan to visit these on any day when there are no cruise ships in port - the tourist attractions are much quieter.
Jamaica offers luxurious hotels to cater for all the discerning traveller’s needs, I loved the peace and tranquillity of Jamaica Inn. This small understated hotel was a firm favourite of Winston Churchill and is ideal for couples and honeymooners looking for a relaxed, tranquil property, that has a fantastic beach to compliment its perfect position on the northern coast of Jamaica.
I feel that Jamaica has much to offer and is often overlooked as a suitable Caribbean holiday destination, but I think it’s definitely worth a visit and I would recommend anyone to give it serious thought.
